Deconstructing the Cap
Are you new to wigs and curious about the differences between cap constructions? This guide breaks down the most common cap types—Pure Stretch Cap®, Monofilament Top, Front Lace Line, and more—so you can understand how each one looks, feels, and performs, and find the cap that suits you best.

Wig Thesaurus
Ear Tabs
These little tabs lay on the wig’s sides in front of the ear and near the temple to help adjust the wig’s placement.
French Part
Hair is individually hand-knotted onto fine lace and finished with a silk layer. This construction fully conceals the knots, creating the appearance of hair growing naturally from the scalp.
Front Lace Line
Sheer, delicate lace panel built into the hairline of a wig or hairpiece where individual hairs are hand-tied, creating the realistic illusion that hair is growing directly from the scalp.
Hand-Tied
In hand-tied wigs, every synthetic fiber or strand of hair is sewn into the cap individually using a hand-knotting technique. While this technique does create exquisite wigs with loose, natural movement, it also results in a higher price tag.
Machine Made Back
Hair is sewn into wefts (strips), which are then machine-stitched onto the cap base.
Monofilament Top
A sheer mesh material at the crown or top of the cap, with individual hairs hand-tied to create the appearance of natural hair growth, flexible parting, and enhanced comfort.
Permatease
A permatease is a dense part of hair that creates volume and hides any wefts.
Remi Human Hair
Remi human hair is premium single-donor hair with intact, unidirectional cuticles, delivering exceptional smoothness, minimal tangling, and a naturally luxurious look and feel.
Swiss Lace+
Features a honeycomb construction that avoids the welding process of traditional lace, creating exceptional softness, enhanced breathability and a seamless, natural hairline.
Weft
A weft is a piece of material with synthetic or human hairs machine-sewn onto it
